John R. WhitmanJohn R. Whitman is founder and coordinator of the Open Civil Academy initiative. Dr. Whitman has had careers in international environmental management, working with organizations including the Smithsonian Institution, Education Development Center, Inc. (since mid-1970), Environmental Research & Technology, Inc., and international organizations; the software industry, starting and selling an international software tools company; and survey research, starting a firm that specializes in conducting studies of customers in libraries, higher education, and businesses of all types. His studies of libraries resulted in co-authoring a book, Delivering Satisfaction and Service Quality: A customer-based approach for libraries, published by and available from the American Library Association (2001). In addition to his work with OCA, Dr. Whitman has been a member of the staff of the National Campus Diversity Project at Harvard University and the Pensions at Work project at the University of Toronto. Dr. Whitman received his BA in philosophy from Boston University, his EdM degree in educational planning, administration, and social policy from Harvard University and his PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. |
